about kelly
Designer
and Color Expert Kelly Porter has been helping clients transform their homes
and businesses for over 10 years.
Her designs brilliantly combine color, comfort and style into an aesthetic she calls "Color Fusion."
In addition to owning Porter House
Designs, Kelly is the 'Living Style' columnist for Sherwin-Williams' website STIR.com, and she's a contributor to Houzz.com, a popular home design website. Kelly also works as a consultant for CertaPro Painters, and she publishes Color Sizzle, an internationally recognized design blog.
Kelly regularly dishes out design and color advice around the internet. She has shared her expertise on websites for Better Homes & Gardens, Family Circle and AOL's ShelterPop, among others. Kelly has also designed three make-overs for The Washington Post's House Calls column.
The Washington Post also featured Kelly in a story entitled, 'Carving Out A Mom Cave Of Her Own.' The story showcased her home office -- a space she coined her Mom Cave. The story received national attention and spawned a Mom Cave design trend that is still catching on {see video below}.
Kelly has
always been fascinated with color and believes it is the most important element
of design. “Color is powerful
because it immediately catches your eye, makes an impression, and perhaps even
changes your mood,” she says. "I'm thankful that God allows me to use beauty and color to enrich the lives of others."
Kelly
received her postgraduate design training from the Sheffield School, based in
New York City. She has also
studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, and she holds a
B.A. in Communications from Howard University in Washington, DC.
Kelly
resides in the Maryland/DC area with her husband and their three sons.
