Party In Pink

Hot pink and other deliciously vivid hues were the featured colors at this event {designed by Fandago Productions}. I love this design because it shows us that bright colors can be elegant and sophisticated.

With pink as the main attraction, this Pittsburgh country club was transformed into an exotic, fanciful birthday bash. Don’t shy away from using bold colors at your next event. Your guests will have a more memorable experience if the colors make a statement.

Restaurant Color {The Bicycle}

One of my favorite topics to blog about is restaurant design & color. Trendy eating spots provide an array of great ideas that we can incorporate into our own home or business. My hubby and I recently dined at The Bicycle, an Asian-influenced bistro in Baltimore. Comprised of two renovated row houses, the atmosphere here is very cozy and colorful. Shades of blue, olive, yellow and a few other earthy hues serve as the backdrop for eye-catching artwork and photography featuring…what else? Bicycles.

Inspired colors from The Bicycle: Lobelia, Tansy Green and Butter Up {from Sherwin Williams}.

Fashion House Color

These photos are from the Fall 2009 Baby Phat/KLS Fashion Show that took place earlier this week in New York. I love how the ‘Kimora Lee Simmons Clan’ was adorned in shades of pink, purple and black. Simmons’ adorable daughters, Aoki Lee, Ming Lee and beau — the incredibly talented actor Djimon Hounsou, all looked very urban chic wearing fuchsia, violet and black. Not sure why Ms. Simmons wore beige, but none the less she looked radiant.

Looking at these couture colors reminded me of two gorgeous bedrooms that I’d seen using the same palette. If you like the clothes, you’ll love these spaces:

This pretty bedroom (livingetc.com) was designed using different tones of purple, accented with pink. This is a good example of how you don’t have to be so matchy-matchy when using one color. Pictured below is a stylish teen bedroom that my blogger-friend Helene Blonsky designed for her daughter. Helene did a marvelous job combining pink and purple with black and white — all very hot color combinations right now. Mmmm…she must be on to something. Greens and Winter Whites

While not as bold as some of the other palettes featured on this blog, green and white can fit any style just by changing the value of the colors. In this dining room (homesandgardens.com), moss green is paired with ivory to create a modern setting. Pictured below, these mood boards (ofifteenmagazine) show a more contemporary version of this palette by using chartreuse and vivid yellow-greens paired with bright white.

The traditional vases below (zgallerie) highlight a formal grassy green.

Even subtle changes of the same color (green in this case) can dramatically alter the style and mood of a space or object. Very interesting.
Lavender and Green

I love the color combination of lavender and green. It’s long been a popular palette for spring and summer weddings, but it’s also an attractive palette for your home. This organic color scheme is relaxing and very stylish, as both lavender and green are showing up more these days on the runway and in home design. It’s a color scheme that offers softer, less dramatic color than…let say, deep purple and red.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I wanted to share one more delicious idea for a Valentine’s Day Treat Table, featuring those adorable mini-cupcakes. Here, on a sheet of sturdy yellow scrap-booking paper, I created a grid using chocolate licorice. Then I put cupcakes in each square — except the center. Actually, I would have put one in the center, too but one of my kids ate the last cupcake. Hey, life happens and sometimes we must improvise. So, I filled a glass votive with M&M’s Raspberry-Almond Premiums and used that for my ‘centerpiece.’ Ta Da! Happy Valentine’s Day {and let me know how your Treat Table turns out}!
Color In The Wind

It’s been a very windy couple of days here in the D.C. – Baltimore area! Like hundreds of other people around the region, we lost our electricity for a while last evening. But in the stillness and darkness of the night, we were treated to the tranquil sounds of outdoor wind chimes. I love wind chimes and have several around my yard. My favorite is the royal blue capiz mobile that I brought back from Venice Beach, CA last spring. I’m starting to see more of these colorful capiz and glass wind chimes indoors, too. They’re such a great way to add color and interest to a space. They also make a fun addition to a nursery, child’s room or even a party!

As much as I love painted and patterned walls, I can also embrace white walls {but very rarely} if colorful seating is present in the space. Here are some examples of sofas and chairs that will leave you sitting pretty.

Valentine Treat Table {Get The Look}
In my last post, I introduced my budget-friendly Treat Table for Two. I wanted to show that you can create a colorful, romantic setting without breaking the bank. In this new post, I offer specifics on how to pull it all together. Move your cursor over the word “Notes” in the PictoBrowser to see details for each photo. A scroll bar will appear for some of the photos, so that you can read the entire description. Have fun!
