Color Behind The Shelves

Painting or wallpapering the back of your bookshelves is a creative way to bring wonderful accent color into your space.

There are so many reasons why I love this living room {shown above}, for example — that delicious sofa — but my favorite thing is the shelving.  Look how the back was painted with three variations of the color pink.  Very hot.  Here are a few other eye-catching ideas:

  1. This is a great idea. I especially like it when the shades compliment each other as shown in the ‘house to home’ and ‘kate and oli’ photos.
Thanks for sharing and have a lovely weekend!

  2. That Martha Stewart gray cabinet with the bright orange back, that continues the color theme from the previous room is a heart stopper. Kevin Sharkey is a genius!
Had to tweet!! Great images, thanks,

  3. That orange back in the Martha Stewart picture is GREAT!
I am looking forward to painting the back of our new built in bookcases in our new house! You will see the result (someday….)

  4. Great post, I love the look of painted shelf backs too! I recently painted one of my own in turquoise, and the effect is fantastic!
