Color That Sticks
I’m just back from a trip to Iowa — a state I never thought I’d have a reason to visit…
That is, until my sons qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics which were held in Des Moines this summer. So off we went, driving almost half-way across the country in the Suburban.
During our stay, while enjoying some free time, I stumbled upon one the most colorfully amazing stores I’d ever seen — Sticks. Maybe you’ve heard of it. The company was started in 1992 by Iowa artist Sarah Grant.
Sticks now employs over 100 people, including 30 painters who work in the company’s Des Moines studio creating the distinctive whimsical, colorful furniture pieces and accessories that the company is now known for.
At the Sticks store, color and art literally greet you right at the front doors:
Several of the company’s painters contributed to the store’s exterior art. Amazing!
Aside from carrying their own pieces, the Sticks store also sells items from outside artists.
Luckily, you don’t have to travel to Iowa to purchase items made by Sticks. They sell their wares in furniture stores and boutiques across the country, and soon you’ll be able to purchase their items via the company’s website.
It was so refreshing to have spent a little time in a beautiful store that embraces bold color combinations and a mix-n-match style. That’s definitely the Color Sizzle way!
