Amethyst and Gold
{pinterest}
I’m feeling a bit regal today, so I wanted to share a color combo that includes my favorite hue {pale purple} and the most royal of colors — gold.

Whether you call it amethyst, lavender or lilac, pale purple captured my heart when I was very young and I haven’t outgrown it. It is a feminine, magical color that just speaks to me. So, if you’ve always thought that pale purple was just for little girls, I’d like to change your mind. This delicate purple actually looks very grown up when paired with neutrals like brown, gray, silver and of course, gold.

Each of these rooms has some sort of fantasy element to it. Don’t you agree? I think that’s because amethyst is such a day-dreamy color and gold is so ritzy. When you put the two together, these colors create a look that is filled with endless imagination fit for ‘girls’ of all ages.
Have A Golden New Year!
I just stumbled upon this gorgeous gold New Year’s tablescape that I wanted to share!
This luxe table setting was designed by Cathy of Noble Pig Winery. I love how she incorporated gold into her theme. In fact, I think gold will be a very hot metallic-hue in 2013…
…But this decor also reminds me to live my life like it’s golden in the new year! This tune from Jill Scott – “Golden” should definitely be in your playlist in 2013!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Inspired By Olympic Gold {and Gabby Douglas}
As the 2012 Summer Olympics begin to wind down, I have been truly inspired by all of the amazing athletes from around the world.
Being a proud American, I am especially thrilled for Team USA! They have won over 40 Gold medals and 90+ overall! So, being the design/color blogger that I am, I couldn’t resist featuring a few golden ideas for your home – and I have a special shout-out to gymnast Gabby Douglas after the pictures:

Gold accessories and accent furniture pieces work well with any color scheme.

Now to my shout-out:
I’m proud join a group of fellow bloggers who are posting, tweeting and pinning our love for Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas. In this year’s games, Gabby has won two gold medals in both the team and individual all-around competitions. She is the first American gymnast to do this at the same Olympics. Gabby is also the first African-American gymnast to become the individual all-around champion. That inspires me.
I wish I had embodied Gabby’s courage and perseverance when I was a young, aspiring gymnast many moons ago. I was actually pretty good…but I wasn’t confident enough to believe that I could be great. Gabby knew she could be great even when she looked around and rarely saw other gymnasts who looked like her.
So, congratulations to Gabby Douglas – America’s Golden Girl and a true inspiration!

Choosing A Color: Gold
Tyra Banks recently posed for a photo shoot in honor of the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen.
“McQueen was considered royalty in the fashion community,” Tyra wrote on her website. So she decided to transform herself, head-to-toe, into a queen.
{What an adorable princess!}
I was very inspired by the regal outfits, especially the gold accents. It reminded me of the gold trend that is slowly making its way through the interior design world. Unlike the trend of the past, this new gold rush is less gaudy and more refined; a little less shiny and more polished satin — definitely an accent and paint color trend to watch.

Have you been seeing gold? Will you add it to your color scheme?
Christmas Decorating: My Dressing Table
At Christmas time, there are very few areas in my home that go undecorated. Even my dressing table gets a festive, glam treatment.
Tiffany Blue is my Christmas color of choice here because it’s the accent color in my bedroom {it’s a very serene and romantic color}.
This dressing table is actually a small desk that I bought from a thrift store over 10 years ago. As you can see by the photo below, it was less than impressive…
…but it was nothing that glossy white paint and new hardware couldn’t fix. I also re-surfaced the top with a ceramic tile mosaic. The ‘vintage chic’ chair came from an old, wrought-iron garden set that belonged to my husband’s grandmother. I spruced it up with a new seat cover.
I love decorating with ribbon because it’s inexpensive but makes a huge impact. I was very excited to find festive gold and aqua ribbon, which coordinated perfectly with everything else.
I’m a firm believer that busy women and moms need a pretty space of their own. You can turn any small table into a delightful dressing table. Just gather up your perfume bottles, photos and other special mementos, and bring in a glamorous free-standing mirror.
Then, during the holiday season, you’ll have a special space to decorate any way you want, using the colors you love.

That Kennedy Center Red
The Kennedy Center has been in the news lately. First, with the announcement that it will be the venue for The Oprah Winfrey Show during Inauguration Week. Then, just this past weekend The Kennedy Center Honors paid tribute to Barbra Streisand, Morgan Freeman and others (shown at top).
This time of year brings back my own memories. When I was a child, my father would take me to The Kennedy Center to see The Nutcracker. It’s been a few years since I’ve last been there, but one thing about The Kennedy Center has always stood out to me — that distinctive red. Red carpeting, red seats and red opera house decor, all accented with white and gold. There’s also a colorful surprise in the Hall of Nations (below) where the flags of several countries hang from the ceiling.
A trip to The Kennedy Center is always inspiring. Here are some ideas for bringing the look into your space:
In this entryway (bhg.com) light blue is paired with red, just like some of the flags hanging in the Hall of Nations at The Kennedy Center.

In my red study, I have a white Christmas tree adorned with gold and white ornaments. If you like this idea, go ahead and copy it!
Boxes wrapped in red, gold and white (pointclickhome.com) will add a festive touch to your home this season.
The Kennedy Center has gorgeous gold and crystal chandeliers given as gifts from Austria and Norway. This lovely Mardella chandelier from the James R. Moder collection (lampsplus.com) is sure to add sparkle, elegance and maybe even a little envy to your dining room.
Black And Gold Christmas
Just a few days ago I was blogging about how I wanted to add pink to my Christmas color scheme. Then I went shopping around and changed my mind. It appears black is hot this season. This unlikely holiday hue is a bold, maybe even daring choice, but it looks extremely elegant when paired with gold. Just like wearing a little black dress and gold jewelry. Here, you see some of my finds from my local budget-friendly places like Michael’s, Target and Wal-Mart.
I would, however, use black Christmas decor sparingly as it can be overwhelming. Just use a few ornaments and bows; placemats and chargers for the table. I just made a wreath using the black poinsettias (below). Now if I can only figure out where to hang it…
