Children’s Easter Table
Re-Post: When planning your Easter gathering, don’t forget the little guests.
I designed this colorful table setting especially for the kids because they love having a place of their own. With splashes of primary colors, orange and a tiny touch of pink, this Easter Table is fun, bright and simple to create. A pedestal-bowl {a thrift store find} filled with dyed eggs makes a great focal point for this setting.
For the place cards, I took a photograph of one of the melamine plates {from Target}, minimized it and typed each child’s name over top. Then, I inserted each card into a small tray filled with gumballs.
The plastic ‘candy carrots’ are filled with jellybeans {Wal-Mart}.
And, of course, extra jellybean jars are always appreciated.
Great colors and sweet treats are always the perfect recipe for a children’s table.

Ideas For Painting Stunning Stripes
Colorful wall patterns always have a way of bringing tons of personality into a space. Although it takes a little patience, stripes are one of the easiest patterns to paint, and the results can be simply stunning.
Vertical stripes will make a room’s ceiling appear higher while horizontal stripes will visually widen a room. Horizontal lines will also give your space a more contemporary feel.

If ‘high-energy’ is what you want, it’s OK to use several colors. The result could be electrifying, so you may want to reserve this treatment for one focal wall.
Of course, painting the walls is not the only way to bring colorful stripes into your space. You can also look for a great area rug, furniture pieces or lighting fixtures.

There are so many different ways to express yourself with stripes, and the good news is, this pattern is classic and timeless. It will never feel dated.

Wedding of Many Colors
This is one of the prettiest, most colorful weddings I’ve seen in a while, and I just think it’s terrific!

Designed by Paige One Events, this gorgeous wedding features a sizzling mix of vibrant colors and cultures.

The main colors are green, orange and fuchsia, with some blues and yellows mixed in. I love how the flower girls wore Japanese kimonos in different hues.

Latin and Indian cultures were also represented at this festive wedding. I think the super-colorful cupcake tower takes the cake! This is such a fun idea — using a variety of flavors, flowers and berries.

Why limit yourself to just one or two wedding colors when you can have a multi-colored celebration? This gorgeous wedding proves that, when it comes to color, more is magnificent!

Small Space. Big Color.
Yes, your small space can be big on color!

New York City designer Lindsey Harper was definitely not color shy when she turned her small Upper East Side apartment into a jewel box. Just inside the door {above}, her ebullient entryway is filled to the max with colorful accessories and bold patterns, and it doesn’t stop there:

Lindsey also used a hefty dose of bold color and pattern in her living room, where a sapphire sofa takes center stage. Some of the same colors are repeated in the bedroom.

{The fabulous chocolate satin headboard is accented with aqua piping and pale blue buttons.}

The small bathroom was also given the works: monogrammed towels, a snake-skin accent table, a red retro telephone and zebra wallpaper.

Design Tip: Lindsey left the majority of her wall space white and brought in colors through the furniture, fabrics and accessories. She also repeated the same hues from one room to the next, which brings harmony to the entire home.
A small space that sizzles with color — love it!

Colorful Painted Stripes
This colorful space is not only a lesson in patience {tons of taping-off I’m sure}, but it demonstrates how color can be creative as well as re-created…

…In this boy’s room, designer Karen Harris used the striped lamp shades as inspiration for the painted wall treatment. The colorful stripes fill this room with loads of energy and excitement, but I also appreciate the red space above the headboard and the white bedding, as these two elements help to quiet down all of the action. Love it!

Color That Sticks
I’m just back from a trip to Iowa — a state I never thought I’d have a reason to visit…

That is, until my sons qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics which were held in Des Moines this summer. So off we went, driving almost half-way across the country in the Suburban.

During our stay, while enjoying some free time, I stumbled upon one the most colorfully amazing stores I’d ever seen — Sticks. Maybe you’ve heard of it. The company was started in 1992 by Iowa artist Sarah Grant.

Sticks now employs over 100 people, including 30 painters who work in the company’s Des Moines studio creating the distinctive whimsical, colorful furniture pieces and accessories that the company is now known for.

At the Sticks store, color and art literally greet you right at the front doors:

Several of the company’s painters contributed to the store’s exterior art. Amazing!

Aside from carrying their own pieces, the Sticks store also sells items from outside artists.

Luckily, you don’t have to travel to Iowa to purchase items made by Sticks. They sell their wares in furniture stores and boutiques across the country, and soon you’ll be able to purchase their items via the company’s website.

It was so refreshing to have spent a little time in a beautiful store that embraces bold color combinations and a mix-n-match style. That’s definitely the Color Sizzle way!
A big thanks to Sarah and Dee at the store!
All photos were taken at the Sticks store, located at 5525 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines, IA. Visit the Sticks website to find a store/vendor nearest you.
Mixing Colors

These spaces are all about layering colors, and I just love the casual, ‘mix and match’ style.

It’s easy to create a colorful space by using accessories. Or paint unexpected surfaces such as the trim and floor. Start with your favorite hue then layer on a few others. Pretty soon, you’ll be living with color in a room that you love.

Styled In Color
I am in total awe of this insanely colorful ‘concept salon’ designed by Garry Cohn.

The Style Club in Dublin, Ireland has got to be the most energetic, color-packed salon on earth. It definitely pushes the limits of design, color and pattern — but that’s the whole idea.

This cutting edge establishment offers daring trends in hair styling — and the interior was designed to reflect just that. I’m really loving the pink giraffe print on the ceiling.

This is more than just getting your hair done {did I mention the live DJ?}. This is an experience. Wow!

Bold Beach Color
When it comes to decorating a beach house, we often think of natural materials and soft, pastel colors…

…but some people think outside the sand box and go for bolder hues.

And why not? A beach house should be about fun and excitement. Relaxation is important too, but the ocean waves will take care of that.

Whether your house is at the shore or much farther inland, these beautiful beach houses show us that we don’t have to be cautious when it comes to coastal color.
