By adding white or gray, the strength of yellow and black is lessened; therefore creating a space that is not so startling but still lively.

A yellow and black space is bold but it need not be too brash.  Avoid equal amounts of each hue by using one as the dominant color and the other as an accent.  Also remember to use splashes of white, gray or any pastel to soften the color scheme.  Follow these guidelines and you too can create an attention-getting space that will also put a smile on your face.

    Yes, I know the hotel in Santa Monica.
    You are so right on with this. We are seeing it all over; also, the gray/yellow combo is strong. I’m going to the AD show at Pier 94 this Thurs.: will report on all I see. Even have a press pass,, so expect many photos!

    Yellow is my least-favourite colour, but I do like how it’s used in these rooms. I agree, it works really well paired with black. I like the powder room with the black & white flowered wallpaper and the living room with the yellow sofa and yellow blind best :-)

    I love that room with the 3 panel pictures and the 2 zebra seats. This color combo is striking and bold. I had two color schemes planned for my daughter’s nursery – Yellow & Charcoal was one. I ended up going with the other – Orange, cream, soft yellow and accented with torquoise. She is 6 months already and I have not finished!!!
