I often tell my clients that inspiration can come from anywhere, and that includes any period in time. This is particularly true for this month's featured color palette -- which is right in front of you on this webpage -- sky blue, navy blue, gold, coral, and red.
Dad as a young Navy soldier
In honor of Father's Day, I was inspired by my father's World War II medals dated 1945 (pictured above). During the war, my father -- Alonzo Smith, Jr. -- served in the United States Navy as a diesel engineer aboard the destroyer USS Norman Scott in the South Pacific. Much later, he retired as a Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Air Force in 1970 -- but not before receiving the Air Force Commendation medal for his contributions and leadership in the development of the Air Force's computerized flight-planning system.
As you can tell, I'm very proud of my dad's military accomplishments, and I miss him very much (he died in 1999). So I find it very befitting to honor him -- and be inspired by him -- this month.
Using this color combo, I can just picture a dining room -- walls painted in a beautiful sky blue with a pale coral ceiling. By adding navy-blue upholstered dining chairs, yellow-gold draperies and a touch of red via the accessories, you can achieve a classy, military-inspired space that any dad would love!

As this palette demonstrates, color inspiration is not just about current trends. Inspiration is timeless and can especially be found in treasured momentos and in the lives of those who are special to us.
